Jacksonville Jaguars 1st-round pick Justin Blackmon was arrested for a DUI early Sunday morning after allegedly blowing a .24 BAC on his breathalyzer test. Blackmon was released on a $1,000 bond and will meet with a Payne County judge on Monday at 1:30 p.m. ET for arraignment. While Blackmon's legal punishment and potential league punishment are yet to be decided, the incident will undoubtedly hurt his contract negotiations.
ESPN's Adam Schefter on Justin Blackmon's rookie deal: "You can look for language that protects the Jaguars as one of the biggest fallouts."
— Evan Silva (@evansilva) June 4, 2012
Blackmon has not yet signed his rookie contract, but it was expected to be somewhere in the range of $20 million. With his recent arrest, as Schefter notes, one could expect him to sign with a lower guaranteed money figure than most would expect. The Jaguars will also likely include clauses in the deal involving alcohol and off-field transgressions, which would force Blackmon to pay back guaranteed money.
