Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best told reporters Monday that he is symptom free from the concussion problems that derailed his 2011 season. Dave Birkett reports that Best is taking extra precautions this season to avoid similar issues.
Best said he'll try out different helmets when the time comes. Still hasn't been cleared for contact and probably won't till before camp

Best likely won't start taking contact until the start of training camp in July. The team still has yet to announce anything resembling a timetable for the third-year running back. Best played in just six games last season.
The Lions' depth chart at running back is really struggling at the moment. Mikel LeShoure was held out of individual drills Monday as he continues his recovery from a torn ACL. Kevin Smith, who has had his own injury problems over the seasons, is currently the Lions' de facto top back in practice.
