Osi Umenyiora recently restructed his contract with the New York Giants on his own after firing his agent. It turns out the football player did a decent job of it, too, as he negotiated a raise of nearly $2 million for the upcoming season.
Umenyiora had quite an odd ordeal when it came to restructuring his new contract -- as we pointed out in this space last week -- but all's well that ends well and, according to NFL.com's Albert Breer, this has ended well.
The New York Giants defensive end will make $6.5 million in 2012, a source with direct knowledge of the contract told NFL.com's Albert Breer. That's a nearly $2 million bump from the $4.7 million that Umenyiora originally was scheduled to earn in the final year of his deal.
The report goes on to say that next season's contract negotiation might be a bit more interesting, however, as Umenyiora plans to re-hire agent Tony Agnone as he explores free agency.
