New York Giants Extend Tom Coughlin Through 2014

The New York Giants announced on Wednesday that the team had agreed to terms on a contract extension for head coach Tom Coughlin. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the extension will keep Coughlin on the sidelines through the 2014 season.

Coughlin was hired by the Giants in 2004. During his tenure as the team's head coach, the Giants won two Super Bowls, including this year's. The 2012 season will be his ninth with New York, making him the second-longest tenured coach in the team's history.

His current contract was set to expire after the 2012 season. The team said in May that an extension was coming.

Giants Offseason Report

In a statement released by the team, Coughlin thanked ownership and vowed to continue the team's progress.

"It has always been my belief that it is an honor and a privilege to be the head coach of the New York Giants," said Coughlin. "I'm thankful to John Mara and Steve Tisch and their families for their support and the recognition of what our players and coaches have accomplished. And I'm grateful for the working relationship Jerry Reese and I have. We've got a lot of work left to do."

Prior to joining the Giants, Coughlin coached the Jacksonville Jaguars from 1995 through 2002.
