Bears DT Nate Collins Suspended For Marijuana Arrest

Chicago Bears defensive tackle Nate Collins was suspended for the first game of the 2012 season, according to Howard Balzer. Collins was arrested at the end of February in Virginia, where he was pulled over for his windows being illegally tinted. The arresting officer noticed the smell of marijuana from the car and later found a duffle bag with marijuana joints in it.

At the time of the arrest, Collins was a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars. But shortly after the incident, the Jaguars rescinded their exclusive rights free-agent tender on the experienced defensive lineman, and the Bears added him in late May. Balzer reports that the incident will cost Collins the Bears' opener this season:

Chicago will open the season against the worst team in the NFL in 2011, the Indianapolis Colts, on Sept. 9, 2012, at Soldier Field.
