Aaron Berry Suspended 3 Games By NFL

Free agent cornerback Aaron Berry has been suspended for three games by the NFL for violating the league's personal conduct policy, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Berry last played with the Detroit Lions, but he was released by the team in July after his latest off-field incident.

Over the summer, Berry has been arrested twice in Pennsylvania, with the second arrest ultimately leading to his release. In June, the 24-year-old was arrested on multiple counts, including suspicion of DUI, and he was taken into custody in July on three different charges of simple assault.

Last season, Berry recorded 31 tackles in 11 games with Detroit. He was expected to be a starter at cornerback for the Lions this season, but now the third-year player is simply looking for a new job. With the suspension in place, Berry won't be able to return until Week 4 regardless of where he lands at this point.

Aaron Berry Says He's Sorry For Those Arrests

The Detroit Lions released Aaron Berry following his second arrest this offseason. Over the weekend, Berry was accused of showing a firearm in an incident. In June, he was hit with a DUI. By Monday morning the Lions had enough and released him.

Berry released a statement apologizing his for his actions:

"Words cannot describe how embarrassed I am right now. I've let my family, my teammates, my coaches and the entire Detroit Lions organization, including the fans down and I'm so sorry. I know it sounds crazy to some people, but I know I will continue to get better and grow from this unfortunate experience, I have no choice but to get better. There are always two sides to every story and the legal process will be where I will tell my side regarding this recent incident. I love the game of football and still feel I have a bright future ahead of me. I worked my butt off this off-season and I hope to be able to help some team in the NFL win games as I continue to grow as a father, friend, teammate and into the man I want to be. I want to thank Coach Schwartz, Coach Cunningham, Martin Mayhew and all the Lions staff, players and fan base for such a wonderful opportunity where I was able to showcase my football skills. Again, I'm so sorry for letting you all down."

Berry's young enough and good enough that he should get another chance. If he can stay straight off the field, he can still have a bright future.

Aaron Berry Released By Lions After Latest Arrest

It's been a bad summer for Aaron Berry, who was just released by the Detroit Lions. In June, Berry was arrested for DUI and in July he was arrested on three counts of simple assault, an incident that reportedly involved a firearm. The Lions have done what many in Detroit have been asking them to do -- released Berry.

The news had to be expected if you'd been paying attention in Detroit. Columnist Bob Wojnowski wrote this lede on Monday after the arrest:

Detroit -- It's not about making a statement. At this stage, it's about punishing irresponsibility and noxious stupidity.

And that's what they did with Berry. One arrest is bad enough. Two shows a pattern and left the Lions with few other choices. This was the right move.

The Lions, though, are creating an unfortunate image. Berry's latest arrest is the seventh this offseason for the team.

Lions' Aaron Berry Arrested For Second Time In A Month

The Detroit Lions are probably really looking forward to training camp.

Already tied to sixth arrests this offseason, the team's cornerback Aaron Berry was arrested early Saturday morning for the second time this July, this time for allegedly brandishing a firearm in Harrisburg, Pa.

According to a Harrisburg Police captain, via the Detroit Free Press, Berry was charged with three counts of simple assault "and there was a firearm involved."

In June, Berry was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in which he also allegedly hit four parked cars and refused a breathalyzer test.

As a result of that arrest, Berry was set to sign up for a program that could have expunged those charges from his record, but after his latest incident on Saturday morning, it's likely that deal may no longer be an option.

This has been an offseason marred with bad news for the Lions franchise. In addition to Berry's now two arrests, Mikel Leshoure and Nick Fairely have been booked for separate charges pertaining to DUI and marijuana possession.
