Seattle Seahawks Soar Into Training Camp On July 27

Stay connected with SB Nation

7-9 somehow managed to be good enough for the Seahawks to make the playoffs two seasons ago, but this past year, it wasn't close. Their attempt to break .500 in 2012 begins with the start of training camp on Friday.

The question Pete Carroll's squad is looking to solve by the end of camp is obvious: who out of Tarvaris Jackson, Matt Flynn, and Russell Wilson will emerge as the Seahawks' starting QB? Jackson had a career high in passing yards last season in his first year as the Seahawks' starter, but this is his seventh year in the league, and he's never really figured out how to throw more touchdowns than interceptions. Flynn impressed in his lone start with the Packers last season, throwing for 480 yards and six touchdowns against the Lions in Week 17 while Aaron Rodgers rested, and earned himself a three-year, $26 million contract. But that was just one game with one of the highest-octane passing attacks the NFL has ever seen - the last time Flynn played consistently he was a starter for the 2008 National Champion LSU Tigers squad. Wilson is a rookie who impressed majorly in three years at NC State and improved upon his already nice resume with a dominant season as the QB for Wisconsin last year, but the 5-foot-11 QB was only a third-round pick and probably isn't cut out to start right away at the NFL level. The Seahawks will try to leave training camp with a better idea of who they want throwing the ball.

Of course, there are other questions for the Seahawks: Star running back Marshawn Lynch got the contract he wanted, but a DUI might see him suspended for part of the year. The Seahawks also hope to improve a pass rush after drafting Bruce Irvin in the first round and picking up Jason Jones from the Titans on a one-year deal.
