Justin Blackmon will avoid jail time after his attorney entered a guilty plea to drunken driving for the rookie wide receiver during a hearing Tuesday. Blackmon was ordered to pay a $500 fine and will have to complete 50 hours of community service. Judge Michael Stano imposed a deferred sentence of one year, meaning Blackmon could face jail time if he fails to complete the terms of his sentence in that time.
Police arrested Blackmon at a traffic stop in Stillwater, Okla. A breath test showed that he was driving with a blood-alcohol content three times the legal limit.
Blackmon was drafted No. 5 overall in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars this past April. He remains unsigned, in part because of his DUI arrest in June. So far, no Top 10 pick has had offset language included in his contract. Blackmon could be the first if the Jags feel they need to protect themselves due to the wideout's legal troubles.
