Back in April, Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather was arrested for driving under the influence. On Wednesday, Meriweather's case was resolved and he was found guilty.
ESPN 980 originally reported that Meriweather was found guilty of DUI and was given a 180 day sentence and a $300 fine. Rich Campbell clarified that Meriweather has received a 180 day suspended sentence. He will be on probation and in the event that he violates his probation, he will serve the full six-month jail sentence.
Certainly this isn't the way that the Redskins wanted to start their association with Meriweather, or the way they wanted to kick off their training camp, but it could have been worse. Provided Meriweather doesn't have any more extracurricular mishaps, he should be available for the remainder of the offseason and through the 2012 NFL season.
