Adrian Peterson hopes to be ready for the Minnesota Vikings' first regular season game but he's not quite there yet. Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier told reporters on Friday that Peterson would start the season on active/PUP. This is different from the regular season PUP and it's not as concerning.
A player can't be added to the active/PUP list during training camp. He has to be placed there before it starts. So this gives the Vikings and extra roster spot for camp while Peterson continues his rehab.
If he's going to be ready for Week 1, he'll need to come off that list sometime during camp.
Earlier this month, Frazier said the team will "be smart" with Peterson's rehab.
"He's so valuable to our organization that we have to be smart. We'll tread lightly as far as Week 1 and how much he'll contribute on the field. Even when we get to training camp, he's going to be chomping (sic) at the bit but we'll have to be smart."
