The San Diego Chargers don't have a lot of depth at quarterback behind their perennial Pro Bowler, Philip Rivers. You can tell this because Charlie Whitehurst was a backup to Rivers, and because when Whitehurst can't go, the Chargers seek help from an even less impressive NFL player:
After backup QB Charlie Whitehurst got hurt at camp yesterday, #Chargers sign Kyle Boller.

Yep, that's right: Kyle Boller is still in the NFL. Sort of.
Whitehurst's injury forced him out of practice on Thursday and left him sitting with his left knee wrapped on the sideline. Whitehurst is expected to miss a few weeks of action with his injury, so the Boller signing is to give San Diego another live arm for preseason play, more than anything.
At least, it should be: Boller threw just 32 passes in his last two seasons with the Oakland Raiders, and four of them were intercepted.
