Cam Newton will try to avoid a sophomore slump beginning with the Panthers preseason opener against the Texans on Saturday.
Fresh off an impressive rookie season in which he threw for more than 4,000 yards and 21 touchdowns, Cam Newton will try to avoid a sophomore slump beginning with the Panthers preseason opener Saturday against the Texans.
In addition to his impressive passing numbers, Newton also rushed for 706 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2011. His 14 rushing touchdowns were second most in the NFL. All eyes will be on Newton to see if he can repeat his performance this season. The preseason opener will also be the debut of Luke Kuechly who the Jaguars selected with the No. 9 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
On the other side of the field, the Texans will welcome back Matt Schaub. Schaub missed the final six regular season games last season with a foot injury, but is healthy now and will attempt to lead the Texans to their second straight playoff appearance. Houston should once again have a high-powered offense with Andre Johnson, Arian Foster and others returning.
Game Date/Time: Saturday, Aug. 11; 7:00 p.m. ET
Location: Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, N.C.
TV Schedule: NFL Network
Radio Schedule: Sirius XM channel 88
