Leonard Hankerson's Absence Appears To Be Heat-Related

Stay connected with SB Nation

A heat-related issue forced Washington Redskins wide receiver Leonard Hankerson to be carted off the field Tuesday. The report comes as a relief to those concerned about the Redskins wide out, who apparently left the practice field on a cart and with a towel on his head. Tuesday's weather forecast for Ashburn, Va. predicted a heat index as high as 92 degrees.

"Hankerson was participating in team drills midway through the team’s practice when he staggered to the sideline and took a knee in front of a golf cart," wrote Zac Boyer of Fredericksburg.com. "Athletic trainers immediately helped him onto the back of the cart and removed his jersey and shoulder pads before putting a towel on his head. He was then taken on the cart to the team’s facility."

The 23-year old, who's competing for the Redskins' No. 2 wide receiver job, is coming off a one-catch performance in Washington's 7-6 victory over the Buffalo Bills last Thursday.
