Dwayne Bowe Will Play In Chiefs' Preseason Game

With Dwayne Bowe waiting until last Friday to finally sign his franchise tender, his status for Kansas City's next preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks was up in the air. Josh Looney of the Chiefs' official site reports that Bowe will indeed be getting playing time against Seattle.

According to the quote from head coach Romeo Crennel, Bowe will be getting "a couple plays here and there."

Bowe will have two preseason games to tune himself up for the upcoming NFL season, where he'll be looking to improve on his 81-reception, five-touchdown season in 2011.

Dwayne Bowe's Status For Chiefs 3rd Preseason Game Still Up In The Air

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to take things slow with newly-signed receiver Dwayne Bowe, as head coach Romeo Crennel still has no idea whether his star wideout will be in uniform for Friday's preseason game against Seattle according to Arrowhead Pride.

Crennel mentioned that he doesn't want to put too much on Bowe's plate in the early going, and will wait to see how he responds to the week of practice before making the final call. "I think that depends on how he does the next couple of days here and tomorrow, in particular, after we get him in pads," Crennel said.

Still just 27 years old, the 6-foot-2 Bowe posted his fourth career 70+ reception season in 2012 despite a bevy of injuries and what can only be considered erratic quarterback play. Though his touchdown numbers dropped off significantly this past year (5) after an eye-popping 15-touchdown campaign in 2011, there are only a handful of players in the league who can match Bowe's big-play ability when he's fully healthy and motivated.

Chiefs' Dwayne Bowe Could Play Against Seahawks On Friday

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe could suit up against the Seattle Seahawks on Friday, according to a report from team insider Josh Looney.

Bowe ended his offseason holdout with the Chiefs on Friday before they headed to St. Louis for their preseason matchup with the Rams. He passed a physical and a conditioning test at the University of Kansas Hospital Training Complex before signing his one-year franchise tag, and now has about a week to prepare for Pete Carroll's Seahawks.

Bowe will be hard-pressed to get back into game shape after missing the entire offseason and first three weeks of camp with Kansas City. The time for him to practice will be shortened even further due to a three-day acclimation period he must go through under the new CBA. He can only take part in meetings and walk-throughs, though Friday's tests served as the first day of the acclimation period.

Bowe will have just two practices and Thursday's light workouts to prepare him for Seattle if he is going to play.

Dwayne Bowe's Signing Comes Day After Chiefs Training Camp Ends

The day after the Kansas City Chiefs concluded training camp, Dwayne Bowe signed his franchise tender and joined the team. Coincidence? Probably. We wouldn't want to speculate that Bowe was all too happy to miss training camp since there is absolutely nothing to suggest that his decision to sign the tender had anything to do with the end of training camp, but here he is, ready to play now that it is over.

That Bowe missed training camp could be a problem. The Chiefs have a new offensive coordinator in Brian Daboll, who is putting in a new offense that Bowe now has pick up on and make sure he has down pat by the time that the season starts. Daboll has worked with Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel and quarterback Matt Cassell in the past so they are picking up the offensive quickly and now Bowe has to play catch up.

It is highly unlikely that Bowe will play in Saturday's preseason game against the St. Louis Rams, which will leave Bowe two preseason games and three weeks of practice before the regular season gets underway.

The Chiefs have an offense full of talent and now they have Bowe back, who had over 1,000 yards receiving in each of the last two years. Once Bowe gets into practice, sorts things out and gets on the same page of everyone else, the Chiefs could have a dynamic offense. Now, with the franchise tender signed, he can finally get to work on pushing that Chiefs offense to another level.
