The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced that the club has activated running back Rashard Mendenhall and nose tackle Casey Hampton from the preseason physically unable to perform list on Friday afternoon.
Mendenhall had torn the ACL in his right knee during the team's regular season finale last year against the Cleveland Browns and was originally expected to start the season on the PUP list, which would have forced him to miss the first six weeks of the regular season.
Hampton underwent surgery to repair an ACL tear of his own, which he sustained in the Steelers first round playoff loss to the Denver Broncos. The injury was the 34-year-old's third ACL tear of his 11-year career.
By rule, both players will not be able to practice in full pads until next week.
