Even though he is off PUP, Steelers' Rashard Mendenhall is not expected to be ready to play regular-season opener, could miss most of Sept.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 17, 2012
Had Mendenhall remained on the physically unable to perform list he would have been forced to miss the first six weeks of the season, so despite the fact that he will still miss significant time his removal is a positive development. The Steelers' leading rusher has been on the shelf since January 1, when he tore his right ACL in the last game of Pittsburgh's 2011 season, a 13-9 win over the Cleveland Browns.
