Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall will not be ready for the team's season-opening game against the Denver Broncos, according to a Tweet from ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Even though he is off PUP, Steelers' Rashard Mendenhall is not expected to be ready to play regular-season opener, could miss most of Sept.

Had Mendenhall remained on the physically unable to perform list he would have been forced to miss the first six weeks of the season, so despite the fact that he will still miss significant time his removal is a positive development. The Steelers' leading rusher has been on the shelf since January 1, when he tore his right ACL in the last game of Pittsburgh's 2011 season, a 13-9 win over the Cleveland Browns.
