Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Won't Hit Byron Leftwich No More

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has been fined $21,000 by the NFL for his hit on Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Byron Leftwich in Week 1 of the 2012 NFL preseason, according to a report from CSN Phillly. The official ruling was that Rodgers-Cromartie "unnecessarily struck a defenseless player in the head and neck area."

Rodgers-Cromartie was accepting of the fine, though he downplayed the seriousness of the hit:

"I won’t hit him no more, I’ll tell you that much," Rodgers-Cromartie said. "It’s not even a vicious hit... shoot, he got up right from it. I mean, I’ll say I left my feet. I can understand that. I can understand a fine coming."

He later repeated that he would not do it again, but added that "you have to keep playing."
