Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart left the field with an apparent leg injury during the first quarter of Carolina's preseason game against the Dolphins. Stewart went to the locker room for further examination on his leg, and the team announced shortly thereafter that it was a calf issue -- prompting Carolina fans to exhale everywhere. Stewart just signed a a new five-year, $36.5 million extension with the Panthers this week. The deal guaranteed the veteran back $22.5 million. Thankfully for the Panthers, the injury appears to be minor at this point.
Stewart did not have a rushing attempt in the Panthers first preseason game last week, pulling down just one catch for 13 yards. He did punch it in from two yards out on Friday against the Dolphins before leaving the game at the end of the first quarter.
