Levi Brown Scheduled For Surgery On Tuesday

Arizona Cardinals left tackle Levi Brown is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair a torn triceps tendon in his right arm on Tuesday morning in Phoenix, as Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports. There's no timetable for the lineman's return yet, but it's expected that he'll be out for at least a good portion of the 2012 season.

Brown, a key part of Arizona's line since being drafted fifth overall in the 2007 NFL Draft, has started in every game for the Cardinals since the beginning of the 2008 season. That iron man streak will come to an end this year, though, after Brown suffered the triceps injury against the Oakland Raiders in last week's preseason game.

In the game against Oakland, Brown was replaced on the line by D.J. Young, a 24-year-old rookie out of Michigan State that spent last season on Arizona's practice squad. Considering the high probability that Brown is out for most of this season, it seems likely that the Cardinals will need to figure out a new plan at left tackle now.

Levi Brown's Injury Has Cardinals Looking For Left Tackle

Levi Brown, left tackle for the Arizona Cardinals, is set to miss his first football game since 2007 after tearing his right triceps in Friday's game versus the Oakland Raiders. Cardinals fans remain optimistic that the tackle won't miss the entire season, but the prognosis is grim. Until a timetable is set for his return, the Cardinals will need to begin the search for Brown's replacement.

Following Brown's injury in the game, he was replaced by D.J. Young. Young spent a majority of 2011 on the Cardinals practice squad. The Cardinals are giving him what he wants -- a chance to prove himself -- by starting him at left tackle in Thursday's game versus the Tenessee Titans.

Should the experiment with Young not pan out, other in-house possibilities include moving vets Jeremy Bridges and D'Anthony Batiste over to the left side.

With a few more weeks left in the preseason, the Cardinals will likely play the waiting game before coming to a decision on Brown's replacement. Teams are still cutting their rosters down to 52. If Arizona gets lucky, they may be able to snag an experienced veteran to be the stop-gap until (and if) Brown returns.

Levi Brown Injury: Cardinals LT Could Miss 3 Months With Torn Triceps

The Arizona Cardinals lost their projected starting left tackle, Levi Brown, in Friday night's preseason game with the Oakland Raiders. Brown has reportedly torn his triceps muscle and is expected to miss at least three months as he recovers. He will undergo an MRI on Saturday to determine his next course of action.

The loss of Brown for the Cardinals could be a big one. The offensive line struggled for most of last season, which did not make things easier on whichever quarterback was making the start that week. Given the QB battle that is still going on in training camp, trying to find a new left tackle is only going to complicate things for the coaching staff.

Look for the Cardinals to officially announce the injury sometime this weekend or early next week once the MRI results come back.
