Newly acquired San Francisco 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs went down with what appears to be a serious left knee injury in the first quarter of Saturday night's preseason game against the Houston Texans.
The injury occurred on Jacobs' first carry of the game, an eight yard run. His left knee appeared to collide with cornerback Kareem Jackson's helmet/shoulder pad area and Jacobs remained down on the field for several minutes.
The extent of the injury is unknown, although Jacobs will not return tonight and was unable to put any weight on his left leg while being escorted from the game.
Without Jacobs, the 49ers will turn to Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter and Anthony Dixon to pick up additional carries.
The 49ers and Texans were tied 3-3 after the first quarter of play.
