Miles Austin Injury: Cowboys WR Likely To Miss Rest Of Preseason

Stay connected with SB Nation

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin, who's dealing with hamstring problems, will likely be on the shelf for the remainder of the preseason. Austin has not played in the Cowboys first two preseason games, and owner Jerry Jones indicated that it's unlikely he'll return next week for their third preseason game against the Rams. Via Josh Ellis of DallasCowboys.com:

"He's not one of the ones I'm thinking will be back," Jones said. "I wouldn't discount it, but he's not one of the ones that I have coming back."

Austin missed the entirety of the 2011 preseason with persistent hamstring problems, and it's likely Jason Garrett and the Cowboys will hold him until the start of the regular season next month.

Teams typically rest their starters in the fourth preseason game, so if he doesn't return next week as Jones indicated, he won't be in uniform until the league opener September 5 against the Giants. The Cowboys do not expect the issues to carry over into the regular season.
