The Cincinnati Bengals began whittling down their roster Friday, putting cornerbacks Brandon Ghee and Shaun Prater on the season-ending injured reserve list, reports Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com.
Left guard Travelle Wharton, who will undergo ACL surgery in his right knee, was also placed on the season-ending injured reserve list, writes Hobson.
The rest of the roster moves, according to Hobson, were more surprising. Safety Robert Sands will need surgery for a chest injury received in Cincinnati's preseason contest against the Atlanta Falcons, and rookie receiver/cornerback Taveon Rogers will also require surgery after injuring his shoulder in Thursday night's loss to the Green Bay Packers. Both were placed on injured reserve as well.
Among the other roster-trimming casualties, writes Hobson, were quarterback Tyler Hansen and defensive end Luke Black, both rookies, as well as running back Aaron Brown and guard Matt Murphy. All four were cut from the team outright.
The Bengals roster currently sits at 76, and needs to be dropped down to 75 by Monday, Aug. 27.
Update: Bengals release Kashif Moore to get down to 75.
Cincinnati closes their preseason next Thursday, Aug. 30, at the Indianapolis Colts.
