The Tampa Bay Buccaneers suffered a major loss on Friday night when Davin Joseph was lost for the season with a torn patellar tendon that has placed him on the injured reserve list, according to Rick Stroud.
The two-time Pro Bowl guard was carted off the field against the New England Patriots after his leg was taken out by rookie defensive lineman Chandler Jones.
Joseph was supposed to be part of the best guard tandem in football after the Bucs signed Carl Nicks away from the division-rival New Orleans Saints in the offseason.
The 28-year-old leaves a gaping hole of the offensive line, perhaps to be filled in by Ted Larsen as many expect. It's the first serious injury Tampa Bay has suffered in the preseason, but a devastating one at that. With Josh Freeman looking to have a bounce-back year, this is an even tougher pill to swallow.

According to Bucs Nation, Tampa Bay Buccaneers guard Davin Joseph was expected to miss the entire season with a right knee injury suffered in Friday night's 30-28 victory over the New England Patriots in the Tampa's final preseason tune-up at Raymond James Stadium. But there is good news as it appears that Joseph will instead miss just three months after being diagnosed with a broken kneecap.
The two-time Pro Bowler was carted off in the second quarter when Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones was blocked into his leg.
The 38-year-old Joseph was expected to pair with Carl Nicks to bolster the running game and form one of the NFL's top duos at the offensive guard position. Ted Larsen is expected to fill-in for Joseph. The three-year veteran has started 14 games over the past two seasons.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers guard Davin Joseph left the game with knee injury in the final minutes of the first half of the team's preseason game against the New England Patriots.
Donald Penn was losing his block, and he shoved a Patriot pass rusher into Joseph, whose leg got twisted up in the resulting pileup. The injury appeared serious and Joseph was carted off the field.
Tampa Bay's offense posted 138 yards in the first half, with Josh Freeman going 9-for-17 for 89 yards. Ted Larsen entered the game to replace Joseph, and an emotional Penn had to be calmed down by head coach Greg Schiano.
