The New York Jets trimmed their roster down ahead of Monday's roster cut down deadline, releasing seven players, among them two wide receivers and two defensive backs, the team announced Saturday.
The Jets cut former Tampa Bay Buccaneer wide receiver Raymond Webber, WR Dexter Jackson, cornerback LeQuan Lewis, safety Marcus Lott, guard Terrence Campbell, long-snapper Derek Chard, and defensive tackle Matt Hardison.
The Jets have the last two weeks of preseason play to cut another 27 players to make it down to the maximum regular season roster size of 53. The Jets still have 11 wide receivers in camp, according to their official depth chart, so expect them to cut five or six more wideouts. In addition, the battle between Matt Simms and Greg McElroy for the third quarterback spot on the roster is ongoing — it's unlikely the Jets keep both of them.
