The Tampa Bay Buccaneers suffered a major loss on Friday night when Davin Joseph was lost for the season with a torn patellar tendon that has placed him on the injured reserve list, according to Rick Stroud.
The two-time Pro Bowl guard was carted off the field against the New England Patriots after his leg was taken out by rookie defensive lineman Chandler Jones.
Joseph was supposed to be part of the best guard tandem in football after the Bucs signed Carl Nicks away from the division-rival New Orleans Saints in the offseason.
The 28-year-old leaves a gaping hole of the offensive line, perhaps to be filled in by Ted Larsen as many expect. It's the first serious injury Tampa Bay has suffered in the preseason, but a devastating one at that. With Josh Freeman looking to have a bounce-back year, this is an even tougher pill to swallow.
