The San Francisco 49ers had to cut a dozen players today to meet the 75-man roster limit as stipulated by the NFL. Niners Nation compiled a list of the players cut. The unfortunate victims include fullback Cameron Bell, defensive tackle Patrick Butrym, defensive backs Ben Hannula and Cory Nelms, wide receiver Joe Hastings, defensive end Matthew Masifilo, cornerback Deante Purvis, tight end Joe Sawyer, offensive lineman Jason Slowey, kicker Giorgio Tavecchio, and wide receiver Brian Tyms.
NFL roster cuts are mandated by league-wide limits, which state that all teams must be down to 75 players by Monday at 4 p.m. ET. The next set of roster cuts should begin at the conclusion of the preseason. There the 49ers must figure out which players they must cut or assign to the practice squad to ensure the team meets the 53-man roster limit before the beginning of the NFL regular season.
