The NFL closes out the preseason with a rematch of the last Super Bowl.
The New England Patriots and the New York Giants will stage a rematch of Super Bowl XLVI in the fourth week of the preseason. The stakes ... will not be quite as high.
NFL teams generally treat the third game of the preseason as a dress rehearsal for the regular season, leaving the final game of the exhibition season as a chance for players at the bottom of the roster to make one final statement before the teams have to cut their rosters to 53.
There won't be much, if any, of Tom Brady or Eli Manning on Wednesday night. Instead, expect heavy doses of Patriots' 2011 third-round pick Ryan Mallett as well as Ryan Perrilloux, the former Jacksonville State QB best known for washing out of LSU.
The game won't mean much to any of fans foolhardy enough to tune in, but it's a big opportunity for both young signal callers to get some NFL experience under their belts.
NFL Network will have full coverage of the game at 7 p.m. EST on Wednesday.
Big Blue View has you covered for all the latest on the Giants while Pats Pulpit has all the latest news and analysis on the Patriots.
