The New York Jets have had a lot of trouble this offseason getting any media coverage for their team. In an effort to try to drum up some attention -- any attention, head coach Rex Ryan has come up with a foolproof plan to get someone to write something about his not-at-all-interesting or newsworthy football squadron.
The Associated Press reports that Ryan excused 19 players from practice on Wednesday so that they could attend a "leadership training" seminar. Players sent to New Jersey (home of great leaders) for the event included Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow, Darrelle Revis and Santonio Holmes.
As you may have heard, the Jets locker room was a bit of a mess at times last season. Certainly some good old-fashioned leadership presence is just what they need to gel in 2012. And what's better than one locker room leader! 19 leaders. I can't foresee how this would possibly cause any issues at all.
I bet Wednesday's practice was totally awesome for the other 30-plus Jets players who know they're not going to be leaders this year. I wonder whether anyone bothered calling plays, or if they all just sadly smashed into one another for a few hours until giving up and going home.
