By 9 p.m. on Friday night every NFL team will need to trim their roster down to 53 players, the league-mandated maximum number of players. Teams are currently allowed to have 75 players, which means every team will have to cut up to 22 players. That's 704 free agents that will be hitting the market.
Every team played on Wednesday or Thursday of this week, the last set of preseason games. They have all the evaluation needed to make decisions on what their transactions will be.
Some players will be outright cut; others will be placed on IR, opening a roster spot. There are always surprises at this time of year. A veteran will undoubtedly be cut that stuns everyone, whether it be based on ability or money.
One team's trash is another team's treasure, which is the best way to describe what will happen on Friday and the days ahead.
Stay tuned to this StoryStream for more on the 2012 NFL roster cuts.
