According to Adam Caplan, the New England Patriots have cut quarterback Brian Hoyer.
This comes as something of a shock for the former Michigan State QB, who was slated to be Tom Brady's backup. Hoyer has been with the Pats since 2009, appearing in 13 games.
Caplan also points out that Hoyer is not vested, so he could be claimed off of waivers as early as tomorrow at noon.
In addition, Shalise Young has reported that backup center Dan Koppen has also been released. The news about the former Boston College center was later confirmed by Ian Rapoport.
Finally, Young has reported that the Patriots dropped safety James Ihedigbo, who played in all 16 games for New England last season. Patrick Chung will start at strong safety for the Patriots.
