NFL Cuts: O.J. Atogwe Out In Philly

The Philadelphia Eagles, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano, have cut safety Oshiomogho (O.J.) Atogwe. Atogwe recently injured his hamstring in Thursday night's preseason game against the New York Jets.

Atogwe was trying to make the Eagles after playing 13 games for the Washington Redskins last season and being released in March. Atogwe was entering the second year of a five-year contract he signed with the Redskins. Prior to that, the former Stanford standout had played six seasons with the St. Louis Rams.

The Ontario native was competing with Phillip Thomas to serve as Nate Allen's backup at strong safety, though it was originally thought that he could play either strong or free safety.

Atogwe has several impressive seasons on his resumé, including the 2007 season in which he amassed eight interceptions.
