The Atlanta Falcons got down to the NFL regular-season roster limit of 53 players but parting ways with 22 on the preseason roster on Friday.
Among the 22, veteran cornerback Dominique Franks, a fifth-round pick of the Falcons in 2010, was waived. Franks saw considerable playing time for Atlanta in 2011.
Shann Schillinger, a safety, was spared only in the sense that he was placed on injured reserve and won't play this season.
Rookie wide receiver James Rodgers, the brother of Falcons running back Jacquizz Rodgers, was among those cut. James Rodgers set school records for catches (222) and all-purpose yards (6,377) in his career at Oregon State.
More on the Falcons' cuts here from SB Nation Atlanta:
Other than Franks, there weren't many other recognizable names (in terms of their pro careers) on the Falcons. But linebacker Spencer Adkins had most of his experience at the NFL level on special teams.
