New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes potentially could miss the remainder of the preseason due to tightness in his back, according to a statement made by Jets head coach Rex Ryan on Wednesday. The discomfort in Holmes' back forced him to miss practice while he received treatment in the training room.
While Ryan stated that the 28-year-old receiver could miss the team's final three preseason games, he personally believes he will play prior to the start of the regular season.
Rex says it is "certainly possible" that Santonio Holmes could miss rest of preseason, but he thinks Holmes will play in preseason at some pt
The New York Jets got a scare Saturday when their top receiver, Santonio Holmes, suffered an injury during practice that was initially thought to be a broken rib. It appears, however, Holmes and the Jets dodged a bullet as the team announced X-rays came back negative.
Holmes, X-rays negative, no fracture, listed day-to-day, #Jets announce.
The injury occurred in practice when Holmes took a direct shot to the ribs from cornerback Antonio Cromartie. Following the injury, Jets trainers told head coach Rex Ryan that it appeared Holmes broke a rib. A fracture could have caused Holmes to miss the rest of training camp with the injury possibly even carrying over into the regular season.
The day-to-day prognosis has to come to a major relief to a Jets team already thin at wide receiver. Holmes was second on the team last season with 51 receptions for 654 yards.
