Texans linebacker Brian Cushing was hospitalized with an illness late last night, the Houston Chronicle's John McClain reports. Cushing missed a Wednesday practice as a result.
It is unclear whether the illness, reportedly a virus with flu-like symptoms, will keep Cushing out of the Texans' first preseason game on Saturday against the Carolina Panthers.
Cushing has been remarkably injury-free in his three years in the NFL. Since being drafted by the Texans in 2009, he's missed just four of 48 possible regular season contests, and those four were the result of a suspension for testing positive for banned substances served at the beginning of the 2010 NFL season.
Cushing blamed overtrained athlete syndrome for the result that caused that positive test.
