Jimmy Graham suffered what initially appeared to be serious back injury when he landed hard while making a touchdown grab during Wednesday's joint New Orleans Saints-New England Patriots practice. Interim head coach Joe Vitt said that he does not believe the injury will be a long-term problem, however.
"He's fine. He's fine. ... If it was anything, I'd have a report from the trainers," Vitt said.
Graham landed directly on his back on the catch during the non-padded session. After jogging to the sideline, the tight end fell to the turf in pain and stayed there for about a minute before standing up and stretching his back. Graham was able to walk around gingerly, but did not return to practice.
Despite Vitt's optimism, there is still no word yet on Graham's status for Thursday's preseason opener against the Patriots.
