Caleb Hanie Headed Back To Denver Broncos

Released by the team one day before its scheduled opener, quarterback Caleb Hanie was officially re-added to the Denver Broncos' 53-man roster on Monday afternoon according to DenverBroncos.com's Gray Caldwell.

Hanie signed a two-year deal worth $2.5 million with the Broncos back in the spring, but was apparently beat out by rookie Brock Osweiler for the No. 2 job behind starter Peyton Manning heading into the year. However, by cutting Hanie before Sept. 9 originally, the Broncos fully avoided having to pay him any guaranteed money (he was scheduled to receive $1 million for the season) or his $250,000 roster bonus.

And as predicted by the Denver Post's Mike Klis, the Broncos wasted little time bringing Hanie back after stepping completely over the monetary hurdle in Week 1. The team still does not appear entirely confident with a shaky youngster like Osweiler under center if anything were to happen to Manning, so Hanie may very well jump back into the No. 2 role right away.
