St. Louis Rams center Scott Wells injured his foot during Sunday's opener against the Lions and the team has announced that his return is questionable. Robert Turner replaced Wells in the middle of the Rams offensive line, moving over from left guard. Rookie Rokevious Watkins came on to replace Turner at guard.
Wells was brought in by the Rams this offseason to anchor the center of the offensive line. He was signed to a four-year, $24 million deal that was expected to pay immediate dividends in Week 1 agains the menacing front of the Lions. But Wells has been hobbled all spring and training camp after undergoing knee surgery. There has been instability along the Rams offensive front throughout the preseason, but it was expected that center would not be an area of need.
It's now up to Turner and Watkins to handle the tough Lions interior, which features Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley.
