Former Miami Dolphins wide reciever Chad Johnson has officially been charged with one count of misdemeanor domestic battery stemming from an incident in which he allegedly headbutted his wife, Evelyn Lozada, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

The alleged incident took place on Aug. 11, and Johnson was arrested the same day. According to accounts of the event, the couple began arguing when Lozada found a receipt for a box of condoms. Lozada was treated for a laceration on the scene and then transported to a local hospital.

The incident led to Johnson's release from the Dolphins, which was documented in the current season of HBO's "Hard Knocks" series. Johnson had a short discussion with Miami head coach Joe Philbin, reminding Philbin that he had never been in trouble before. The coach still said he felt it best for the Dolphins if they parted ways.

Johnson is scheduled for arraignment on Thursday morning, and is expected to enter a written plea of not guilty rather than physically appear in court, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
