Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints hit the road for Week 2 when they travel to Carolina for a divisional matchup against the Panthers. The Saints opened the season with an upset loss at the hands of the Redskins and their dynamic rookie quarterback, Robert Griffin III. Now they'll face one of the NFL's other versatile and young quarterbacks in Cam Newton, whose Panther offense struggled in a Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers. But despite their Week 1 loss, Brees expects Cam and the Panthers to be unrelenting and for things to be close down the stretch (via Steven Cuce of Sports Radio Interviews):
They are extremely explosive offensively. They got a lot of guys healthy again defensively, which unfortunately for them last year they got hit really hard on defense with the injury bug. They've got all their guys. Hopefully we are getting some of our guys back, but we know what a big game this is. It always seems like Carolina has always been a game in the last six years whether it's at home or away. It seems like it's always a battle. It's back-and-forth and we know what to expect to kind of step into that environment.
The Saints eked out a barnbuner last year in Charlotte when Brees connected with Pierre Thomas for a touchdown to win it in the final minute. With both Brees and Newton likely to trade blows again this Sunday, we could see another divisional game come down to the wire as both teams desperately try to avoid an 0-2 start.
