Shonn Greene Injury: Jets RB Heads To Locker Room With Head Injury

Stay connected with SB Nation

Shonn Greene has left the field in the New York Jets' game against the Pittsburgh Steelers following a hit that caused the RB to be looked over by the trainers. After hitting the second level after making it through the offensive line, he was met by Ryan Mundy who delivered a clean, but unintentional helmet-to-helmet shot that left the RB dazed and caused him to head to the sideline. Following a short time he was taken back to the locker room to be examined further, and it's likely he'll be checked for concussion-like symptoms.

UPDATE: Greene is questionable to return.

Up to that point, Greene had seven carries for 23 yards, and was the go-to guy in the Jets' running game. He's now replaced by second-year running back Bilal Powell, who has just 16 career carries to his name. Thus far, his replacement is playing well with four carries, but he's by no means a long-term answer in the Jets backfield. With the NFL's new rules on safety, New York will take a good look at Greene before thinking of returning him to action.
