Shonn Greene Injury Update: Jets' RB Returns To Game Vs. Steelers

Stay connected with SB Nation

After leaving the game in the first half with a suspected concussion following a helmet-to-helmet hit from Ryan Mundy, running back Shonn Greene returned to start the second half. He quickly resumed being the Jets workhorse with three straight carries, in a game in Pittsburgh that is being defined by defense and running the football.

In Greene's absence, backup Bilal Powell ran the ball seven times for 25 yards, and was largely ineffective against Pittsburgh's run defense. Currently Greene isn't fairing much better, with his game line improving to 10 carries for 29 yards, but he offers the Jets another option on offense, something they sorely need.

The Jets are going to need as many backs healthy in the second half as possible, because as it stands New York are unable to protect Mark Sanchez long enough to build a passing offense. The Jets' QB has been under pressure for much of the day.
