Giants Make Their Mark In NFL History With Offensive Explosion

Eli Manning and the New York Giants needed every ounce of offensive output to overcome an early deficit and move to 1-1 on the season with a 41-34 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The performance ranked high in a few records: Manning's 510 yards passing was the second-most in team history, just barely missing out on beating a 513-yard performance by Phil Simms in 1985, and the eighth most in NFL history. The team's 604 yards offense was also the second-best figure in team history and most since December 3, 1950, when the team put up 609 yards.

Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz were the first pair of receivers ever to each record ten receptions and 175 yards in a game: Nicks had 10 catches and 199 yards while Cruz reeled in 11 passes and had 179 yards. The trio of Manning, Nicks, and Cruz were only the second group in NFL history to have 500 yards passing while two players had 150 yards receiving. The other happened over 70 years ago in 1951, with Norm Van Brocklin, Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsh and Tom Fears for the Los Angeles Rams.
