Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Andrew Luck earned his first career NFL regular-season victory with Sunday's 23-20 win over the Minnesota Vikings at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Luck, the first overall draft pick this year out of Stanford, had a solid day, completing 20 of 31 pass attempts for 224 yards and two touchdowns.
Other highlights of the second Sunday in the NFL: the San Francisco 49ers, with a bloodied quarterback Alex Smith, defeated the Detroit Lions 27-19. There were a number of key injuries in games on Sunday -- notably New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez. New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was violently thrown to the ground on a sack but returned to the game against Carolina, though the Saints lost.
Other rookie quarterbacks who got their first wins Sunday: Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks and Ryan Tannehill of the Miami Dolphins.
Luck threw touchdown passes to Dwayne Allen and Reggie Wayne.
