Deion Branch Returns To New England Patriots, According To Report

Wide receiver Deion Branch will make his return to the New England Patriots after being released in the last round of roster cuts, Shalize Young of Boston.com reports.

Branch was deemed unnecessary by the squad after training camp, but with an injury keeping tight end Aaron Hernandez out three to six weeks, the Patriots need targets for Tom Brady. Branch obviously has a history with New England, having played six seasons and won two Super Bowl rings over two separate stints with the club, one from 2002-2005 and another in 2010-2011.

The 33-year-old proved he still had something left with 702 receiving yards including five touchdowns last season, but the Patriots have opted to focus much of their passing attack around Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski this offseason, rendering the wide receiver position less important than before.
