The New York Jets and Miami Dolphins have each looked like world-beaters in one outing and sputtered in another. Both teams will find out a lot about their skill level this season in an AFC East divisional matchup Sunday, with the Jets favored by three points on the opening line.
Each team has beaten the spread once at home – the Jets crushed the Buffalo Bills 48-28 in Week 1, with most of Buffalo's scoring coming with the game well out of reach; the Dolphins handled Oakland 35-13 this past week behind 172 yards by Reggie Bush. But each has also scored only ten points in road outings, the Jets falling 27-10 in Pittsburgh, while Miami was brutalized 30-10 by Houston in Week 1. If those home-road tendencies continue, the Jets are in trouble as they head to Sun Life Stadium.
It's tough to say what to make of the 40-point over/under: each team has proven they can take that down almost singlehandedly thus far this season, while only putting up 10 points in another outing. The Jets have gone over in 16 of their last 24 games, while the Dolphins have gone under in 13 of 17.
