Darrius Heyward-Bey Injury: Raiders WR In Hospital With Neck Injury

Stay connected with SB Nation

Darrius Heyward-Bey and the Oakland Raiders received a serious scare during their Week 3 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. As Heyward-Bey streaked down the field he received a non-intentional helmet-to-helmet hit that knocked him to the ground immediately. He left the game on a stretcher and was taken to a local hospital. The latest word is that the wide receiver did not suffer a concussion and instead has a neck injury that will need further evaluation.

Here is Adam Schefter of ESPN.com with the latest:

Raiders WR Darrius Heyward-Bey is in stable condition in a Bay Area hospital after suffering a neck injury, according to a source familiar with the injury. Doctors do not believe Heyward-Bey suffered a concussion and it's more of a neck injury that will require further testing Monday. "But I think he avoided something serious for now," said a source.

The report that Heyward-Bey is in stable condition is great news. The young wide receiver gave a thumbs-up to the crowd in Oakland while being carted off, but everyone was holding their breath until official word came from the hospital.
