Andrew Weber-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Veteran punter Brian Moorman will be released by the Buffalo Bills.

The Buffalo Bills will release veteran punter Brian Moorman, according to a report by Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com. To replace Moorman, the Bills will re-sign rookie free agent Shawn Powell, according to Tim Graham of the Buffalo News.

Moorman and Powell competed for the job in training camp. Following an impressive showing from the veteran, the team decided to retain his services in addition to naming him special teams captain. Through three games in 2012, Moorman averaged 45.5 yards per punt on 15 attempts but only placed two of those kicks inside the 20-yard line. The longest tenured member on the team, Moorman had been with the club since 2001 and was entering the final year of his contract.

It is unclear who will replace Moorman as the place holder on kick attempts.
