John Abraham says arrest was 'bad timing'

After a Monday night arrest landed John Abraham in jail until early Tuesday morning, the Falcons defensive end told the Associated Press on Thursday that the obstruction of justice charges were a matter of "bad timing."

"I think at this moment I don't want to talk about my side," Abraham said. "Once we get everything clarified and get everything going the right way -- because we're still in a legal situation that we need to get cleared out and everything. But, you know, sometimes it's just bad timing. I'm not going to fault anybody at all. It was just that things happen in life."

Atlanta police officer Christopher Blaise told reporters earlier in the week that Abraham had refused to leave a taped off area while police officers and firefighters were trying to calm a woman that was threatening to jump from a building window. Blaise also said that Abraham smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and was unsteady on his feet.

Abraham, 34, has been in the NFL for 13 seasons and is in his seventh season as a member of the Falcons. His 114 career sacks are the most among active players and place him No. 15 on the all-time list, 7.5 sacks behind Clyde Simmons.
