Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson returned to practice on Monday for the first time since early August. Richardson's status for the team's opening week game against the Philadelphia Eagles is still up in the air, but this may put him on track to take the field. Richardson, the team's first-round pick in the 2012 draft, underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Aug. 9.
If Richardson is unable to go in Week 1, the Browns will likely split carries between backups Montario Hardesty and Brandon Jackson. The team opted to keep a fourth running back -- Chris Ogbonnaya -- on its initial 53-man roster as insurance in case Richardson's recovery takes longer than the team hopes.
As a junior at Alabama last season, Richardson ran for 1,679 yards and 21 touchdowns.
