Ryan Mathews Injury: Chargers RB Not Taking Hits Yet

Stay connected with SB Nation

San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews has not been cleared for contact, putting his season opener on Monday night in jeopardy, according to the North County Times' Scott Bair.

The Bolts are hoping to ease him back into practices while slowly increasing the contact he takes, though head coach Norv Turner noted that there is no timetable for his return.

"I don't have a schedule," Chargers coach Norv Turner said. "I will say that I love his attitude regarding the injury. He's doing everything possible to get back. He'd have to get the reps necessary to prepare for a game, and he's not at that point yet."

Mathews broke his clavicle in early August during a preseason game. San Diego will take on the Oakland Raiders as part of the NFL's Monday Night Football double-header.
